I am putting together as approximate guide how do a spray job.
RJ London sold in store is the most user friendly paint around.
 Grin

I am using a P226 for example.

This is my work bench.

Use Dull Black / Metallic Black. I used Dull Black for now.

Spray approximately 10 cm to 15 cm from the target.

Don't spray too close or it will smudge.

Move from left to right or vice versa like a type writer.

Once finished, let it dry for 1 hrs plus.

Continue to spray opposite sides until satisfied. ( Usually 2 coats of paint )

Use RJ Dull Lacquer for scratch protection

Spray approximately 10 cm to 15 cm from the target.

Don't spray too close or it will smudge also

Move from left to right or vice versa like a type writer.

Once finished, let it dry for 1 hrs plus.

Continue to spray opposite sides until satisfied. ( Usually 2 coats )

This for those who have space to spray.
Find a hanger, use a wire/hook and hang the model to spray to avoid newspaper sticking on them.

Yes. Apply primer first, then spray paint and Lacquer. The primer no need to spray too thick.

But I saw in another thread that said that the premier will cause the paint to be wiped off easily.
Confused.  Huh

erm, would like to ask, isnt premier to be applied first? thanks in advance.

Primers are used mostly for 3 reasons:

1. The surface needs to be sealed from moisture to prevent corrosion (such as rusting on metal)
2. The surface is porous. (Most commonly, wood)
3. You are making a drastic colour change.

Most plastics are not porous nor oily thus you need not use a primer unless you are making a drastic colour change (e.g grey pistol to black/chrome/gold).

If you simply trying to spray paint a black plastic pistol black, primers are unecessary and may lead to covering the details of your gun such as the grooves on the pistol grip.

Most important is to do three things with plastics:
1. Prepare your surface by sanding down any smooth plastic surface to ensure proper paint adhesion (must not be shiny).
2. Multiple thin layers of spray paint
3. Do not handle your painted object until the paint is fully cured (there is no more paint smell)

actually primers can also have the same effect of sanding the surface and if u've created details or covered screw holes with putty etc. priming helps even out the surface

I think the rails and lower receiver should be fine.. More practical as Paint on the barrel and flash hider might melt during actual firing..

Same thing. Different words used.

What is the difference between 2 x 2, 16 divided 4, Square root of 16, 4 squared or Eight divided by 2 ?

All is still number 4

For me, 2~3 coats should not be a problem for tamiya paint.  Then again, it is very much depending on individual skill.

For example, saw a guy posted a video clip showing how he spray his mod ... continue long spray going all over the place in random pattern, going near and pulling far all at same time, to me I was  Shocked .  To me such tactics create lot of waste and will not be uniform.  Well I guess I also like that years back when first pick up the spray can ba.

Tamiya paint got pro and cons.  Cons is small capacity and expensive.  And when it near empty, the big droplets that come out from it can screw your work big time unless you going for big droplet camo.  You need deep pocket for tamiya spray paint.

As for primer... I dont believe in primer for toy replica as no diff to me.  May be it is the way how i work with spray painting job.
