Black Water is a private military/security company that works for both civilian and military sectors and is more commonly referred to as hired contractors not mercenaries or units. A unit is referred to as a military unit that is part of army, naval or airforce services...for e.g. Deltas, Devgru

Recon, calling black water a hired contractor is little more than an euphemism. Like calling a sale assistant a 'Sales Executive' when he/she does little 'Executive' work and is not paid for the 'Executive' role.
The term 'irregular' unit is older than you, I, or Black Water itself. Heck, its even older than USA.
How ever one wishes to describe an organisation as a 'unit' is really up to them. There is no hard and fast definition of what fits a 'unit'.

Blackwater is one of the many hired security companies or private military companies employed/hired by the federal government during the Iraq War to guard officials and installations, train Iraq's new Army and Police, and provide other support for Coalition Forces. So if by saying that they are hired contractors is an euphemism, then who pays for the food on the table? they did it out of patriotism and duty? all i can say that pay and perks are faking good, which makes up for the risks and dangers they are subjected to. Lastly, yes i do have friends who were SFs and were formerly working as PMC but now have retired to being security consultants for their sake of their families.

Sorry to bring up that ranger tutorial again but, are the MICHs supposed to be of a particular color, like OD, or can Black or Sand be used aswell?

Actually what is the purpose of snakeskin pattern? I assume its cos snakeskin blends extremely well and they wanna follow it? Kinda dark in this area of mil-sim so apologies

Depends on yr creativity, the general idea is to break the outline and shape, snake or foliage patterns are the common used or some they just dust abit of tan, earth and grey to break the shape and blend in with the surroundings

75th RR at NASCAR. I see 1 or 2 rangers with sand colored MICHs? Or is that just OD or black with the snake pattern. Also, is it better to have Black w/ Sand, OD w/ Sand or Sand with krylon Green for the snake pattern? OT: The left-most ranger is slouching forward? And they are using land CIRAS, correct? What is that bungee-looking thing hanging below their vest for the 2 rangers in the front? EDIT: Nvm the bungee thing is a sling.

Thats a retention lanyard. A retention lanyard is used to tether an operators rig to an anchor point such as a stationary object of vehicle anchor. Such lanyards are used by armed forces to strap troops to vehicles for a secure attachment. Equally, it could be used to strap equipment to a vehicle such as a door gun on a helicopter. it could be also used as an extraction lanyard if the need arises
